Astronomy.sg is proud to host the Singapore Astronomy Olympiad (SAO), which is modeled after the international astronomy Olympiads, and qualifies students to participate in the 18th International Astronomy Olympiad, 7th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics, and 9th Asia-Pacific Astronomy Olympiad, competitions in which Singapore has been participating in since 2007.
Registration should be done through your school’s Astronomy or Science club teacher i/c, or your Science HOD. Deadline for registration is 21 February 2013, after which more details on the SAO will be provided to interested parties. There is no limit to how many students may participate in the SAO, and all nationalities are welcome.
The inaugural Cassini Scientist for a Day (Singapore Edition) was co-organized by Astronomy.SG and Woodlands CC Youth Club in conjunction with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and sponsored by the NUS Physics Department. It consists of an Essay Contest about Saturn and its moons, targeted at students from Primary 5 to Junior College and Polytechnic, and a video conference for participiants to engage with scientists and engineers from the Cassini-Huygens mission. Winners of the contest will also have their essays and names published on the NASA website for international recognition.
